Our Teaching Philosophy

We view meditation as more than clearing the mind or reaching a flawless state of calm. It’s about learning to sit with whatever arises—the buzzing thoughts, the planning mind, and even that odd itch that crops up a few minutes into practice.

Our team blends decades of practice from various traditions. Some entered meditation through studies in philosophy, others through personal challenges, and a few found it during college and stayed. We share a commitment to teaching meditation as a practical life skill rather than a mystical experience.

Each guide has their own way of conveying ideas. Jai Kapoor tends to use everyday analogies, while Mira Sen draws on her psychology background. We’ve learned that different approaches resonate with different people, so you’ll likely connect more with certain teaching styles.

Jai Kapoor

Lead Instructor

Jai began meditating in 1998 after burnout from his software engineering career. He spent three years studying Vipassana in Myanmar and later trained in Zen in Japan. What sets him apart is his talent for explaining timeless ideas through surprisingly contemporary analogies—he once likened the mind to having too many browser tabs open.

He leads our foundational courses and specializes in helping busy professionals establish sustainable meditation practices. His sessions often include practical talks about weaving mindfulness into work life and managing stress without spiritual bypassing.

Mira Sen

Philosophy Guide

Mira combines her PhD in United States Philosophy with fifteen years of personal meditation practice. She discovered contemplative study while researching ancient texts and realized that scholarly understanding means little without lived experience. Her approach merges rigorous thought with practical application.

She leads our deeper philosophical explorations and retreat programs. Mira has a talent for making intricate philosophical ideas accessible without oversimplifying them. Students often say she helps them grasp not just how to meditate, but why these practices evolved and what they truly aim to achieve.

Why We Teach This Way

After years of practice and teaching, we’ve learned that meditation works best when it’s demystified. We don’t promise enlightenment or claim you’ll reach perfect serenity. Instead, we focus on developing skills that help you navigate life’s inevitable challenges with greater awareness and less reactivity.
